- 4.Report what changed
AI visibility is not a mystery. It is a measurable set of signals you can track, compare and improve - as long as you decide up front what counts as being seen.
Define what visibility means
A brand is visible when a model names it in an answer to a question its buyers actually ask. That definition is narrow on purpose: impressions and mentions elsewhere do not tell you whether you are part of the answer.
Write the definition down before you measure anything. If visibility means being named in at least one of ten prompts for a given topic, you can hold yourself to it every week and see movement honestly - a visibility audit is that definition, run on a schedule.
Pick the models that matter
Every model draws on different sources and returns different answers. Tracking one chatbot gives you one opinion, not a market view.
Start with the models your buyers use most, then add the ones your competitors show up in. Four models is usually enough to see a pattern without drowning in data.
Track prompts and citations
Prompts tell you where you appear. Citations tell you why. Run both together and you stop guessing: a prompt you miss plus a source you are absent from is a specific, fixable problem. Prompt tracking and a citation audit are the two halves of that picture.
Keep the two linked in one view. A visibility score that cannot be traced back to an answer and its sources is a number nobody will act on.
Report what changed
The useful report is a diff. What moved since the last scan, which prompts opened up, and which competitor gained ground.
Send it on a fixed cadence so the work becomes routine. AI answers move slowly enough that weekly is usually right, and fast enough that monthly loses the thread.
Be part of the answer.
Start tracking how AI describes your brand across every major model - and fix what's missing.
