Models describe your brand using the pages they trust. Improving what they read is the most durable way to change what they say. A citation audit shows you which pages those are.
How citations shape answers
When a model answers a question about your category it leans on a small number of sources: review sites, comparison pages, documentation and journalism.
Those sources decide your framing. If a competitor's comparison page is the most cited source for your category, the model will describe you in their terms.
Score source quality
Not every citation is worth chasing. Weight sources by authority, how recently they were updated, and whether they actually describe your product in depth.
A handful of strong, current sources does more for your visibility than dozens of thin mentions.
Find the gaps
List the sources cited in answers where you are missing, then sort by how often they appear. The top of that list is your roadmap.
Repeated appearances of one competitor page across several prompts is the clearest signal you will get - that page is doing the persuading on your behalf, badly.
Earn the citation
Get accurate, citable material onto the pages models already read: clear pricing, honest comparisons, and documentation that answers the question directly.
Then re-scan. Citation share moves slowly, but it moves - and when it does, the answer around your brand changes with it.
Be part of the answer.
